Firefly Occasions Inc. was created by Ciara Daykin and is operated in Calgary, AB, Canada although the team will travel to various destinations to provide services. People often ask us, “What’s a Firefly Occasion?” When Ciara was brainstorming in the initial stages of creating the company she really concentrated on the imagery she wanted the name to convey. She wanted the concept to be heavily romantic but as simplistic and pure as love should be. Her favorite image was…A couple in love, sneak away from a large party to be alone. They run barefoot through the dewy grass to the lake. The band starts to play and they dance with a starry sky as their backdrop as the fireflies flutter in and out of the moonbeams. Now that’s definitely a “firefly occasion.”
The way in which the company was named and developed illustrates the care and dedication that is the essence of Firefly Occasions Inc. Great effort has been put into creating a corporation that provides cutting edge ideas and extraordinary customer service to our clients. Ciara Daykin is the owner and CEO of Firefly Occasions Inc., a wedding and event planning company based in Calgary, Alberta. Ciara holds a B.A. in Communications and Culture with a major in Leisure in Tourism from the University of Calgary and a Latin American Studies Diploma from the Collegio de Jallisco in Guadalajara, Mexico. She held various positions specializing in management, sales, marketing strategy, event planning, and business operations before starting her own company in 2004. One such position was at the Canadian Academy of Recording Sciences which is the organization that plans and executes the Canadian Juno Awards.
Ciara’s ezine (online newsletter) for brides has attracted a list of 10,000 individuals. She is a highly sought after speaker in her industry, has had her articles and weddings published in books, magazines and online, and is a well-known social networking personality with a large following. Ciara has been a key note speaker at the Wedding Planner’s Institute of Canada’s Annual Conference as well as the Association of Bridal Consultants Annual Conference. Ciara also coaches other wedding planners internationally through her Rockstar Wedding Planner program. Over 3500 wedding planners follow Ciara’s advice in her bi-weekly ezine for wedding planners.
Ciara continues to plan events and has recently opened up a division Daykin Productions to plan entrepreneurial events for heart centered entrepreneurs. Ciara is also the author of “Ciara Daykin’s Do It Yourself Wedding Planning System.” She is a member of the Association of Bridal Consultants and has earned the designation of Professional Bridal Consultant™. She has been nominated for Business In Calgary Magazine Leaders of Tomorrow Award as well as the RBC Canadian Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. She is the winner of the 2008 Canadian Wedding Industry Award for Best Ceremony Decor in all of Canada. Firefly Occasions was the only Alberta company on the list of winners.
Ciara attended Strathcona Tweedsmuir School for high school in Calgary, Alberta and continues to be an active alumni participant volunteering her event planning and design experience to enhance school functions. Many alumni turn to Ciara to plan and design their events.
Simon Daykin is an accomplished designer. He began his career in Ontario at Sheridan College prior to moving to Calgary to work as an Architectural Designer. Simon is also an accredited interior decorator. Simon’s involvement in events began early in his career when he was the co-owner of a successful DJ company in Toronto. Having been the DJ at over 200+ events, Simon knows that music impacts the entire atmosphere of an event. Simon also worked directly with artists during his career in the Canadian music industry with an independent artist recording distributor. He was the guest judge at many battle of the band events and has a diverse taste in music.
During his studies in interior decorating Simon took a particular interest in Feng Shui and transfers this knowledge to the events he designs at Firefly. Simon is skilled in creating moody lighting to enhance the ambience and is experimenting with fragrance to heighten the senses of the guests as they walk into his creations.
Simon now lives in Calgary with his wife, Ciara Daykin, The Event Choreographer for Firefly Occasions. Together, Ciara and Simon infuse events with unique detailing. The two travel extensively, researching event production in different countries and cultures. Most recently Simon and Ciara visited with Hugh Hefner at the Playboy Mansion.
